The Integrated Disability Evaluation System (IDES) is a joint Departments of Defense (DoD) and Veterans Affairs (VA) program designed to improve the disability evaluation process and facilitate transition for wounded, ill or injured Service members facing potential medical discharge. IDES affords them the opportunity to initiate their VA claim while on active duty when referred to their first medical evaluation board. IDES provides a single set of disability examinations and a single-source disability rating for use by both Departments in executing their respective responsibilities. IDES seeks to provide optimal service and satisfaction for Service members and their families.
